Country Pearls Goldens is committed to good breeders and helping buyers weed through the bad ones. There are so many breeders to choose from, it can be an overwhelming process to figure out which one is responsible and which one isn’t. Please take the time to ask the hard questions. If any breeder ever makes you feel like an inconvenience, move on. This is a big decision, and this puppy will be a part of your family for years, make sure they are good and healthy years instead of spending all your time and money trying to fix them.  What certifications does AKC require for your breed? Have you completed them? Why/why not?

Why do you breed? If the first answer is not to better the breed, be very careful. This is an important question.

Answers to my questions…

AKC requires OFA certifications at the age of 2 years old for heart, eyes, hips and elbows. We have completed all certifications required to ensure all breeding stock and puppies will be AKC registered and to do all I can in my part to help rid puppies of any of these problems in their life.

Country Pearls always completes a full Golden Retriever panel genetics test through animalgenetics.com. We feel it is very irresponsible not to complete this step. It is not required and is an extra voluntary step we choose to do.

We require all dogs/ puppies outside our program to complete the same tests.

We breed to better the breed in health, conformation, personality and do our very best to ensure that your puppy will live a long and healthy life. This is our passion and we love our dogs very much!

Our females are bred once a year from the age of 2 years old to 6 years old assuming they are healthy. They are checked by at least two vets before they are bred to ensure they are healthy enough.

We do not offer full registration. We must know someone on a personal level for years to consider this as we do not want our dogs used and mistreated. Many do not understand what all goes into breeding dogs and we do not believe giving full registration is a good idea for most.

Our puppies go through puppy culture. We socialize them to one different sight, smell, sound, touch, or experience, etc. every day. Our children are a big part in raising our puppies and we have them around as many different people in a safe and controlled environment as possible.

What each puppy comes with is previously stated on my website.

We feed our dogs a fresh homemade and raw diet. We have read and researched many hours on this and feel this is the best decision for every dog. Please refer to “The Forever Dog” by Rodney Habib and Dr. Karen Shaw Becker for a very detailed look on what we feed our dogs and how to help your dog live healthier, longer lives.

Our dogs have more beds than we do here inside our home. The puppies are born and raised in our kitchen, the heart of our home. We have a back covered porch where they play and discover the outdoors in a safe, controlled environment.

Yes, I stay in touch with all my previous families!

We all love taking the dogs out for their run! We take our trail around our 40-acre property and often use the 4-wheeler so we can keep up with them! They have fun exploring in the grass, chasing birds and racing each other.

In between litters, we just live life together. Explore parks, trails, movies, anything we can.

I encourage anyone who wants to buy a puppy from us to come out and meet us and our dogs. And to see where their puppy will be born and raised for the first 8 1/2 weeks of their life. I have nothing to hide. The only time I do not allow visitors is when I have a litter on the ground that is younger than 4 weeks old due to their lack of immune system.

Most important thing to me when choosing, well it’d have to be two things. Personality and health. I don’t want a perfect dog with a bad personality and vice versa. I want to better whatever is weaker in one if that makes sense.

My goal is to bring puppies into this world that are going to live long healthy happy lives. So, choosing the right family is imperative as well as making sure that they have a fighting chance with healthy parent histories.

My typical waiting list is at least a year long. That is common among responsible breeders.

Yes, I actively seek out ways to better myself and my breeding program by seeking out advice from my mentor, reading books, reading articles, researching online, talking to my vets and other breeders, and taking classes on breeding dogs.

I grew up with Golden Retrievers and while I love other breeds as well, I don’t think any quite compare to the Golden. They are loyal, kind, great family dogs and very smart.

We have donated to freedom service dogs in the past and look forward to sending more puppies their way in the future. We also seek out individuals on occasion to help however we do not take applications for donations. It is simply God putting people in our lives to help at that time.
